Bilary disorder
The gallbladder is situated just beneath the liver and is connected to it. It stores and concentrates bile produced from the liver and needed for the digestion of food (fats) within the duodenum. Severe pain in the upper right part of the abdomen may be caused by the gallbladder/liver. Gallstones might form within the bile (Cholelithiasis) and lead to an inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis). Inflammation can also develop without formation of gallstones. Typical symptoms of gallstones are bilious attacks with stinging pains in the upper right abdomen. If a bile duct is blocked by a stone, inflammation of the duct may occur, accompanied by fever. If bile backs up to the liver and penetrates into the blood-vessels, a yellowish pigmentation of the skin (icterus) may occur. In the most cases however gallstones are accompanied by unspecific pain in the upper abdomen with a feeling of fullness and pressure/flatulence and intolerance to fatty food.
